Young dancers, fresh company members, have a look below!

Take a look at these great blogs and sites on ballet and dance on the WWW – it’s some really cool folks out there!

  • Ballet for men – a site on ballet, for men (duh!) by David Hunter. Great page, lots of info!
  • 4dancers – another great site on anything dance! Ran by the oh-so great Catherine L. Tully, it’s a must-see!

I realized there’s quite a few young dancers reading my blog, having questions about how it’s like to work in a theatre, live as a dancer and so on. As a gesture to them, I thought I’d list some posts here that may be of help to you!

First of all, I’m planning a new “how-to” column, giving advices and tricks from my book of experiences. Check out the “columns” part in the navigation bar soon for updates.

Posts with relevant material to dancers going to, or recently in, companies:

Audtions: A post on getting jobs. I try to describe the eliminating process in a audition for any company. If you are thinking about trying to get a job for a company, why don’t you give it a read? It’s maybe harsh, but you’ll be prepared!

Situations to avoid in a ballet company: Some advices on what NOT to do once you got the job. Just some pointers on how to avoid making enemies, or even, how to make a friend or two amongst your colleagues in your first period in a theatre.

Hierarchy in the theatre: Exactly what the title implies – a descriptions of who’s who. Where do you fit in? Ironic, but with some seriousness under there somewhere.

You can also try to click on the “Life as a dancer”-tag in the categories section. It will give you a broad range of posts on anything related to, well, living as a professional dancer.
