Dancers, as most people, I guess, enjoys a party every now and then. Actually, I think dancers enjoys a party just a tad more than “most people”. You get it, right, we are a bunch of overworked, underpaid, young, talented and beautiful people with a common passion for dance – there has to be some partying!

Dancers out partying – not for sensitive audiences

Now, there are two types of partying dancers: The dancing ones, and the non-dancing. Non-dancing dancers? What’ta? Let me explain:
Some dancers, when they go out partying, they want nothing else than to loosen up, move around, employ those beautiful limbs without anyone telling them what to do. So they dance!! Often the whole night through, and usually causing all the “normies” on the dance-floor to take a step back, then go sit, then just leave the bar, feeling ugly and talentless. I know, meeting a “gang” of dancers out for some fun can be demolishing for your self-esteem. We are sorry, we can’t help being gracious and beautiful, it’s our job…

But there is another type of partying dancers, and the reason why you don’t noticed, is probably because you were too busy staring at their beautiful, dancing friends on the dance-floor. But they exist, nevertheless, the non-dancing dancers.

You see, a dancer is used to people watching him or her when dancing with a critical eye. Their ballet masters, their colleagues, their school-mates and eventually their audience, no matter how good a dancer, there will always be people watching, and some of them will be looking for mistakes. This is a fact most dancers accept, but for some, this creates a social block when out partying. When put on a dance-floor, they approach it as they would approach a stage, although here, the audience isn’t as clear as back in the black box where they spend their entire childhood, and most of their adult life in, the theatre. Here, in the club, they are constantly searching, looking for those spectators that will criticize their hand-work, or comment on the total crash of styles in their dancing. The frustration of not finding them just makes them insecure, which again just make them dislike the whole idea of going dancing.

Some of the non-dancing dancers may also just think that they dance for money all day long, why spend the nights the same way, when there is beer and chasers? These dancers usually ends up on the dance-floor anyway, although by that time, their coordination may be a tad worse than their beautiful dancing-dancer friends

So which one of the types am I? Invite me out for a drink, and you’ll know icon_wink-7985940
